The training sessions in June 2021 will foster improved capacity in climate vulnerability management and resilience to climate change between water utilities and other water sector stakeholders of the CARIFORUM Member States. More specifically, the training programme aims at building the capacity of the water utilities in the implementation of the SOPs under an integrated (IWRM) approach.
The training for water resources entities (water utilities officers, other key water stakeholders, representatives of NGOs) will be conducted using a “training the trainers‘” approach, with the intent to provide a path to the training of local communities by the beneficiaries of the training that will be taking place in June 2021.
A 5-day training programme will be carried out for the following audience: Water utilities, relevant CBOs, NGOs, Government officials, Private companies – national companies engaged in the sale of potable water. Mixed participation of wider groups of trainees from different horizons (countries, roles, types of organisations) will encourage dialogue and facilitate discussions and the integration of parameters, stakes and constraints (systemic approach) that may not be obvious to all (i.e. different points of views between engineers, government official and community-focused NGOs, for example).
The training programme provides participants with substantive information, technical/practical knowledge and considerations on the following themes:
- IWRM & Climate Risk Management
- SOPs
- Community-based water supply and sanitation
- Infrastructure and Nature-based solutions (NbS)
- Community engagement, dialogue and training
The training programme is composed of 5 online modules offered within 5 days with 3 virtual sessions and 2 fully online modules that participants can complete at their own pace.
